Boundless calligraphy: a cultural exchange feast attended by famous calligraphers from all over the world

On the stage of contemporary culture and art, calligraphy, as a unique art form, is gradually gaining global attention. Recently, the “Boundless calligraphy – International Calligraphy Masters Invitational Exhibition” co-organized by Taoyuan City Hengshan Calligraphy Art Museum and the International Lanting Calligraphy Association is a reflection of this trend. The exhibition brings together famous calligraphers from nine countries including Taiwan, Japan, China, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam and Argentina, with a total of 59 sets of calligraphy works on display, showcasing the diversity and richness of calligraphy culture around the world.

The “Boundless Calligraphy” exhibition aims to promote international cultural exchanges and allow calligraphers from different cultural backgrounds to showcase their works on the same platform. Taoyuan Mayor Chang Shan-cheng said at the opening ceremony that this exhibition is not only a grand art event, but also an important step in building Taoyuan into an international capital of calligraphy. Through such activities, Taoyuan hopes to attract more art lovers and professionals and further enhance the city’s cultural taste and influence.

Introduction of exhibited works and calligraphers

The works in this exhibition are of different styles, fully demonstrating the characteristics of calligraphy from different regions. For example, the “Ode to Chinese Characters” written by the Chinese calligrapher Su Shishu in the small seal script expresses the importance of the cultural heritage of Chinese characters through seven-character quatrains; while the “Xianming” written by the Japanese calligrapher Arai Mitsukaze in the form of bronze inscriptions shows the dynamic and beauty of the brushstrokes. These works are not only a display of calligraphy skills, but also an important medium for cultural exchange.

In addition, the seal script “Blessings” created by Takagi Seiu from South Korea in the free and easy style of running script shows the unique interest of Japanese seal carving; “Beautiful Nature” by Tsuchihashi Seiko takes the changing of the four seasons as its theme, expressing awe for natural scenery. These works not only reflect the understanding of calligraphy art in their respective cultural backgrounds, but also allow the audience to feel the resonance between different cultures.

As the process of globalization continues to accelerate, calligraphy, as a traditional art form, is also constantly adapting and changing. This exhibition is a microcosm of the integration of global calligraphy culture. In today’s society, many young people have begun to rediscover and learn this ancient craft, and combine it with modern art to create new forms of expression. This not only makes the art of calligraphy more vibrant, but also allows it to be more widely accepted and appreciated around the world.

The importance of cultural exchange

The “Boundless calligraphy” exhibition brings not only the artworks themselves, but more importantly, the cultural exchange significance it carries. In today’s society, people from different countries and regions understand and respect each other through art, which promotes the

Dialogue between cultures. Such platforms allow people from different backgrounds to share their stories and experiences, and deepen their understanding of each other’s culture. “Boundless Calligraphy – International Calligraphy Masters Invitational Exhibition” is a splendid cultural feast that not only showcases the talents of calligraphers from all over the world, but also promotes communication and understanding between different cultures. In the future, I hope that more similar events can be held so that traditional art can continue to flourish in the context of globalization. Through these efforts, we can look forward to a more diverse, inclusive, and creative future.

The exhibition will last until February 24, 2025. All those who are interested in calligraphy art are welcome to visit and experience this visual feast that transcends national boundaries and integrates diverse cultures.
